As the first lady Michelle Obama gets ready to deliver President Obama’s weekly radio address this weekend to draw attention to the plight of the kidnapped schoolgirls in Nigeria, Nigerians-American in the Dayton region are also joining the global campaign with a series of prayers and peaceful protest events.
Next Thursday, May 15, 2014 Nigerian-Americans and other sympathizers will gather by the Dayton Downtown Courthouse at 5.00pm for a peaceful show of solidarity for the Nigerian School girls kidnapped from their dormitories by the notorious Boko Haram.
Boko Haram (translated to mean “Against Western education”) is the Nigeria-based militant group with links to al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). The group is responsible for thousands of deaths in northeast and central Nigeria over the last several years including targeted killings of civilians.
The May 15, 2014 Protest at the Downtown Dayton Courthouse is organized by the Nigerian United of Dayton and Miami Valley.
