Applications are now being accepted for the City of Dayton’s 2015 Neighborhood Leadership Institute (NLI). The institute is a unique opportunity for eligible Dayton residents to learn about the city, to participate in exciting programs to contribute to solving problems that people in the City of Dayton care about and to building a better city for all.
The Neighborhood Leadership Institute has played a key role in helping individuals understand and participate in the dynamic process of making Dayton a better place to live. The Neighborhood Leadership Institute is an educational experience that gives participants insight into Dayton’s history, its governmental process and the inner workings of its neighborhoods. It is a unique partnership project sponsored by the City of Dayton, Sinclair Community College and the Neighborhood Leadership Institute Alumni Association.

Program Objectives
The program has four objectives:
- To broaden the participants’ understanding of the community;
- To expand the pool of skilled neighborhood leaders;
- To encourage and assist the establishment of networks among neighborhoods and their leaders;
- To enhance the ability of neighborhoods to resolve problems on their own or in cooperation with other neighborhoods and/or institutions.
Program Results
Each year, as the leadership class graduates, the pool of knowledgeable leaders in the community increases. For Dayton, this means more people with the ability and the drive who understand how to make things happen. For the participants, this means they have enhanced leadership skills, a better understanding of Dayton and its neighborhoods, and the personal satisfaction of accomplishment.
