Nigeria United 12th Anniversary/Nigeria’s 55th Independence Celebration

NU

Nigeria United (NU) of Dayton and the Miami Valley, a registered 501 3(c) organization was formed in 2003 with the mission to promote unity and foster friendship between Nigerians and other citizens of the Miami Valley and to spread the rich culture of Nigeria in Dayton and beyond. Nigeria United seeks to achieve its mission through educational, cultural, and social activities.

In celebrating its 12th Anniversary in conjunction with Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day Celebration, Nigeria United continues to focus its efforts on assisting communities both in the USA and in Nigeria.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2015 and is dedicated to celebrating the twelve (12) years of Nigeria United and a reflection on this Independence Day about happenings in the Nigeria homeland, and very important FUND raising in order to fund additional projects.

The organisers seek sponsors to fund our community activities, which may be tax deductible. Advertisements or congratulatory messages may be placed in the event program in color at $100 per page. Electronic copies of the message may be sent via the email address below by September 17, 2015.

Supporting Nigeria United as it build stronger relationships between Nigerians and other citizens of the Miami Valley and more importantly between the U.S. and Nigeria, is a noble cause.

organizations will lead more than 120 FREE PROGRAMS for all ages at Dayton Metro Libraries throughout Montgomery County.

Your Library becomes an art studio, a rehearsal hall and a performance stage with Check Out the ARTS, a parnership with Culture Works and the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District. Individuals and families can explore the visual and performing arts with the people who create them, right at their neighborhood Library.
“A child might see ballet toe shoes for the first time at their neighborhood Library,” said Chuck Duritsch, Manager of External Relations. “A teen could develop a talent for improv comedy and an adult could try their hand at drawing with a skilled artist to guide them. The best part is it’s all free!”
The Library is a great place to connect people with the arts. It’s our hope to encourage discovery, learning, collaboration and experimentation, and it’s all possible with Check Out the ARTS.
Check Out the ARTS is sponsored by the George B. Quatman Foundation, Fifth-Third Bank Trustee, and the Ohio Arts Council.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

A Library Card Opens the Gate to Learning
Nothing is more important to young minds than acquiring the ability to read. Dayton Metro Library’s First Club seeks to ensure that all first graders have a Library Card by November, connecting them to the books and other learning tools they need.
“First grade is when children really start learning how to read,” said Teresa Gaylard, Children’s Librarian at the Northmont Branch. “They’re learning sight words and building vocabulary and spelling skills. It’s critical that they have access to interesting, age-appropriate reading material at this time in their lives.”

First Club features illustrated characters Felix and Fiona, who star in an original book called The Awesome, Amazing, Wonderful Book of First Grade Firsts. Children’s Librarians will read the book when they visit classrooms to talk about Library Cards. All classes with 100% participation are entered into a drawing to earn a party, and all children who get a First Club Library Card are entered into a drawing to win one of 75 $10 Books & Co gift cards.

meet COSMO & pip
You named them; here they are! The Library’s new mascot Cosmo and his little blue sidekick Pip made their first public appearance at the Party in the Park on August 8. Cosmo led a lively Superhero Training class and they both made a lot of new friends. More than 2,200 votes were cast to name them!
You’ll be seeing a lot more of this dynamic duo in the coming months, encouraging kids to read, learn and have fun at their Library.
