Family fun at Yoruba’s 25th anniversary event in Ohio

The 25th anniversary event of the Egbe Omo Yoruba of Dayton and Miami Valley, an Ohio based, West African ethic membership group of Yoruba origin in Nigeria, held Saturday, September 8th, 2018. The banquet event is still the talk of the town. People are talking about how at the event, race, country of origin and contentious politics paled into insignificance as people at the event enjoyed an evening of family fun, enriched by delicious food, danceable music, acrobatic  performances and apparent mutual respect for the “other”

The venue was the main hall of St Benedicta De Moore on the west side of Dayton Ohio. A venue punctuated for the duration of the event with an array of artful artifacts, cultural couture and progressive conversations about scholarships and opportunities f

or area students and young professionals.  Old friends reunited and new friendships formed, as guests, joined families of Americans of Yoruba origin iin celebration Mr. Stephen Thompson, a professional auctioneer, made buying and selling of African Arts and Craft an enjoyable transaction

Speaking at the event, Mr. Theo Adegboruwa, the group’s president disclosed that in the past years, the group has given out an excess of $40,000 in scholarships to area students and another $15,000 to support disaster relief and donations to the American Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations in South West Ohio.

These charitable activities of the Yoruba group have not gone unnoticed. The Egbe Omo Yoruba of Dayton and Miami Valley recently received a Congressional Proclamation from United States  Congressman Mike Turner in addition to other recognition from the Ohio State House of Representatives and  the Mayor of the City of Xenia, where the group was originally formed some 25years ago by Dr Bisi Adegbile and nine others. Saturday’s event was moderated by Dr Tokz Awoshakin.  Food was prepared by Columbus based intercontinental restaurant, Traditional performances was by Nigeria-West African Drum Ensemble and music was provided by Ace DJ, John Anene of De John Entertainment.
