Nigerians in Greater Miami Valley, Ohio mark series of notable achievements in different fields of endeavors. These folks from English speaking West Africa are celebrating the notable achievements of their kinsmen in the Dayton area. Some of these feats are believed firsts for people of the Black race, other are firsts for immigrants in America.
The latest of such achievements is the selection of Eng. Tajudeen Bakare, as the 2013-14 Technologist of the Year by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

Tajudeen Bakare, the Regional Department Manager and Head of Bridge Department at CT Consultants, Inc., has more than 29 years combined engineering experience involving highway bridge structures, transportation (major urban expressways improvement/design) projects including consulting engineering, structural design, construction document preparation, client management, business development, project delivery and project management.

Engr. Bakare’s recognition is just one of many such “first of its kind” by members of the Nigerian Community in the Dayton area. For example on November 14, 2013 President Barack Obama announced in a White House press release, his intent to nominate Debo Adegbile to assistant attorney general for civil rights in the Department of Justice.
Debo Adegbile, who is the son of long term Dayton resident and college professor, late Isaiah Adegbile, Valley Professor, also had the notable achievement of representing NAACP at the U.S. Supreme Court on Voting Rights. He currently serves as senior counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.

NAPPSA’s objectives are to mobilize and develop its members through information sharing and working collaboratively to strengthen the health care sector in Nigeria and beyond.

That ceremony held at the Nutter Center during the 2013 Alumni Achievement Awards on Friday, October 11, 2013 Rachel earned her Master of Science degree —-in Biochemistry from Wright State University in 2011.
Ms. Omolewu’ s recognition was proceeded by the appointment and swearing in of Dunbar Early College High School Senior , Louisa Okwudibonye as an ex officio member of the Dayton Board of Education by DPS Treasurer Craig A. Jones.
In addition to joyful news of inclusion ion honor rolls and graduations from high schools, colleges and notable doctoral programs, the many blessings in the Nigerian community in Ohio also featured another “first” in the appointment of Adedeji B. Badiru, as new dean at the graduate school of Engineering and Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology.
As the senior academic officer in charge of planning, directing, and control of master’s and doctoral programs, in the United State Air Force, Adedeji B. Badiru, who replaced Marlin U. Thomas became the first Nigerian and indeed African to hold the prestigious academic office.
